Ramky built a business around something India needed but nobody wanted to think about: managing its waste.

Dr. A. Ayodhya Rami Reddy founded the Ramky Group with a focus on environmental services at a time when waste management in India was almost entirely unorganised and the regulatory framework for environmental compliance was nascent. The business case was that India's industrial and urban growth would inevitably generate demand for professional waste handling, wastewater treatment and effluent management, a prediction that proved correct as environmental regulation tightened over the following decades.

Ramky now manages over 60 million tonnes of waste annually through operations across India, the Middle East and Singapore, spanning industrial waste management, municipal solid waste, hazardous waste treatment and wastewater processing. The business is structurally unglamorous. It depends on long-term contracts with industrial clients and municipal bodies, requires significant capital investment in processing infrastructure, and operates in a regulatory environment that changes with government priorities. That the Rami Reddy family built a leading enterprise in it reflects both patience and an early read on where India's infrastructure needs would develop.
