Mannalal Agrawal built Ajanta Pharma from a modest repackaging operation into a specialty pharmaceutical company with over 200 products distributed across Asia and Africa. The family's strategic choice was to move away from the overcrowded domestic OTC market toward branded generics in international markets where consistent quality and regulatory compliance could sustain meaningful pricing. Sons Yogesh and Rajesh Agrawal have since pushed the business further into complex formulations and R&D-driven specialty products.

The company employs around 10,000 people and has built a reputation in ophthalmology, dermatology and cardiology that positions it in categories with more durable pricing than commodity generics. Ajanta's CSR work, including free eye camps, vocational training for women and support for Olympic and Paralympic athletes, reflects a spread of social investment across health, employment and sport that the family has maintained consistently rather than concentrating in a single signature programme.
